Tuesday 31st May
I have spent a busy day in the sensory garden today, doing battle with the nettles that have grown up along the fence line – the nettles fought back but I will win the war!
We have had a few departures today with Sparky and Bruno the staffie from the kennels and Ollie from the catteries going off to their new homes. Della the german shepherd, who has been on trial, came back in to be officially adopted by her new family. We wish them all many long and happy lives in their new homes.
Mason the gorgeous english bull terrier is now reserved, as is little cat Turbo.
We are trialing a new way of feeding our dogs, starting with the ones in the section called old barn. The food is now put into large kongs or puzzle feeders so that it takes longer for the dogs to eat their food, which keeps them occupied for longer. Other rescues have tried this and found that it helps relieve boredom for the dogs, which is always a good thing. Some of the dried food is put in a tub attached to each of the kennel doors and when a member of staff walks past, they ask each dog to sit and give them some of the food. This also gives something else for the dogs to think about and they will get into the habit of sitting quietly when someone walks in, therefore reducing noise levels. In order to implement this new system properly, we do need more puzzle feeders and large kongs, and also the pots to attach to the kennel doors. We have added these items to our Amazon wish list, so if you would like to donate anything from our wish list, please take a look at – http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/registry/wishlist/3D82GTZWFSVJ5/ref=topnav_lists_1
Just a little reminder that our raffle tickets are now on sale, with top prize of £1000, 2nd prize of an ipad mini & 3rd prize of a cottage break. Get your tickets from reception at the rescue or from any of our 6 charity shops.
I am trying to increase our twitter following (I’m new to twitter & only just learning my way around it), so if you use twitter, please do follow NCAR and help to rehome more animals by retweeting our posts.
