Velma is a truly special girl who, sadly, was left all alone on our rescue driveway. Understandably, it took her a little time to learn to trust us, but once she realised she was safe, her beautiful personality began to shine through. She has blossomed into the sweetest, gentlest and most affectionate girl who simply loves being around people and soaking up all the attention she can get!
Velma is currently enjoying life in a foster home, and her foster family have nothing but wonderful things to say about her. She loves heading out for nice, long walks and would make the perfect companion for someone who enjoys getting out and about on exciting adventures. Even better if those adventures include a little pit stop at a dog-friendly café, something Velma thoroughly enjoys! But don’t be fooled into thinking she’s always on the go, because this girl is just as happy curled up on the sofa, enjoying a cuddle. Her foster family describe her as a real snuggle bunny, and we can certainly see why!
Although Velma doesn’t currently live with children, she has been lovely with the children she has met out and about. We feel she would be best suited to a home with children aged 10 and over, who understand the importance of giving her space when she needs it and would enjoy being involved in her training. Velma has also been making some lovely doggy friends on her walks and has been happy socialising with them. We feel she could potentially share her home with another dog of a similar size and energy level, subject to successful introductions here at the rescue.
Sadly, Velma has already been through more than any dog should have to endure in her short time with us. Not long after arriving at the rescue, we discovered she had a rare condition called Dermoid Sinus, which, if left untreated, can affect the spinal cord. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, along with the expertise of our vets and specialist veterinary team, Velma was able to undergo the lifesaving surgery she needed and has since been given a clean bill of health.
Velma also has sensitive skin, which is currently managed with monthly injections at our vets. The good news is that, once adopted, she can continue receiving these injections at NCAR. We are more than happy to provide her future family with further information and advice about both conditions, so they can feel fully supported in caring for their special girl.
We know that when people Google Velma’s breed, they may come across information that paints a rather unfair picture. But please, don’t judge this girl by her breed or by what you read online. Velma is a wonderful reminder that every dog is an individual, and her gentle, loving nature speaks for itself. All she wants is the chance to show someone just how much love she has to give.
Velma has been let down before, and now it’s her turn to find the family who will cherish her forever. A family who will take her on adventures, share their sofa, enjoy plenty of cuddles and, most importantly, give her the safe and happy life she deserves.
All Velma is asking for is someone to take a chance on her. In return, you’ll gain a loyal, loving companion and a whole lot of snuggles. We truly believe that giving this special girl a chance will be one of the best decisions you ever make.
Could you be the one to give Velma her happily ever after?
