- can't live with young children
Nova is a stunning girl who has come into us as a stray, she had no microchip so we have been unable to trace her owners and nobody has come forward to claim her so is now looking at a loving new home.
She can be timid at times but has been building bonds with the kennel staff and has started to come out of her shell – she is a playful, silly girl when she is comfortable with you! She is very nervous and reactive with new people, and will bark, but this is a fear response. However, she will need a home that doesn’t have many visitors or no visiting kids. She can be strong on lead so will need owners that can handle her, but generally walks well. We have started Gen-con training her but this will need to be continued in the home. Again she can be skittish if something scares her on her walks, this can be very random things such as a plant pot that is in a new place. She is a big whimpy pants at heart, she doesn’t know her size!
We are still testing her with dogs at the moment as she can be quite timid and nervous. She can be reactive with larger or more vocal dogs, again she can be quite strong on lead when she’s reacting so we are looking at rehoming her as the only dog. We have no history on her with cats. She is looking for a home with older sensible children 16+ that can get involved with her training and give her space to settle.
Generally she is a gorgeous girl who we hope finds a home soon as she really deserves somewhere to settle. Please bear in mind that Nova is a large dog, around 35-40kg. Nova will require owners that can continue putting time and effort into her ongoing training and socialisation.
We believe we may know of her history and think she may have been a outdoor guard dog. Please research owning a guarding breed as she may be more suitable to having her own space in the home, specifically a conservatory, outhouse, utility room etc, where she can settle on her own and have access to the outside. She may settle in a normal home environment but she is very skittish and nervous of enclosed spaces and new things so it will be a working process. Staff and volunteers that know Nova absolutely adore her, she is cheeky and funny, so we really hope she gets some interest soon and someone sees her amazing potential. She will need multiple visits to build a bond with Nova.
