Lucy is an 11 month old German Shepherd cross Rottweiler who was signed over to us due to her owners work commitments and them not having enough time for her. She is a very lively, bouncy girl who loves to go on long walks and adventures. She is a typical youngster who gets distracted by everything, but once you have her attention she is very eager to learn. Lucy can be nervous when she first meets people, if strangers approach too quickly or reach to stroke her she does get scared. She settles very quickly with calm people who let her interact with them at her own pace, once she is familiar with you.. she will be your friend for life! Lucy is quite unsure on how to interact with other dogs and can be hesitant and skitty, and due to her still learning how to behave around them she does tend to mimic their behaviours and vocalisations. She can be very full on with other dogs that she is familiar with, so we think she will do best as the only pet in the home. She does require lots of training and socialisation, and being the only pet will allow her to have her owners full attention and the one to one training she really needs. Lucy is quite strong on the lead so some basic lead training would be recommended, but we can advise on this. As she is still young and very hyperactive she will need plenty of mental and physical stimulation to ensure her needs are being met. She does get very scared when traffic passes her out on the road walking here at the rescue, she will try to hide and get away from them. We have started working on this with her here but further work in this area will be needed and we can advise on this. Lucy is looking for a home with sensible teenagers aged 14+ who are used to large/bouncy dogs and are willing to get involved in her training. For Lucy, we are preferably looking for new owners that have experience of German Shepherds/Rottweilers but this isn’t essential, as long as they have experience of training.
